Lillian Mina Walsh

Lillian Mina Walsh, 86, of Jacksonville, Florida, died Monday, March 9, 2009.

Mina was born in Lincoln, NH, on November 1, 1922, daughter of the late James and Jessie (Smith) Walsh. She grew up in Lincoln and was a graduate of Lincoln High School class of 1940. She completed her undergraduate degree at Boston University and received her Masters in Library Science from the University of Texas, where she graduated with highest honors. Mina also studied at the University of Mexico, Mexico City, the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Alaska, Anchorage.

During World War II Mina served in the Women’s Army Corp, one of the first women, other than nurses, to serve within the ranks of the United States Army. Mina continued her public service career as a civilian employee for the federal government until her retirement. Mina served in federal government posts world wide including Mexico, Germany, Korea, Japan, and Viet Nam , California, Massachusetts, and Alaska.

Mina was predeceased by her sisters Fay McInnis, May Tardif, Bernie Lapham, Doris Stack, Jessie Glasgow, Helena Theriault, Kathren (Tad) Shumney and her brother James Walsh.
She is survived by her sisters Joyce Pernokas of Atkinson, NH and June Farrell of Lewiston, ME, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM on Saturday, June 13, 2009, in St. Joseph’s Church, Lincoln, with Rev. John MacKenzie as celebrant. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Lincoln. Edmund Fournier Funeral Services of North Woodstock is handling arrangements.
